The Florida Division of Emergency Management Announces Sign-Up Extension for Operation Blue Roof in Response to Hurricane Ian

~ Impacted residents can now apply through Tuesday, November 1~

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has extended sign-ups for Operation Blue Roof through Tuesday, November 1.

Operation Blue Roof missions are currently being conducted in Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Lee and Sarasota counties. To date, more than 6,000 Blue Roofs have been installed by the USACE.

Operation Blue Roof is a priority mission managed by the USACE for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The goal of the Blue Roof program is to provide homeowners in disaster areas with fiber-reinforced, industrial-strength sheeting to protect storm-damaged roofs until homeowners can make permanent repairs.

This program is for primary residences or permanently occupied rental properties with less than 50 percent structural damage. Vacation rental properties are not eligible for this program.

After the Blue Roof is installed, the structure is declared habitable. Not all roof types qualify for the program. Roofs that are flat or made of metal or clay, slate, or asbestos tile do not qualify. All storm debris must be removed for the roof to qualify.

Residents impacted by Hurricane Ian can sign up for free at Blueroof.US. Here, households can sign up for Blue Roof assistance using a Right of Entry (ROE) form, which gathers information about the impacted residence. The ROE is a legal document that allows Corps workers to access your property and assess your home’s damage. The ROE also allows contracted crews to work on your roof. Residents can also call toll-free 1-888-ROOF-BLU (1-888-766-3258) for more information.
